Burned-Out West family aided by local groups in 1959 fire
The Frederick Red Cross and county welfare agencies coordinate aid for the West family after a Tuesday chimney fire destroyed their 10-room home. Furniture clothing and housing are priorities as Raymond West and the family manage temporary lodging with Barter 2 neighbors. Veterans groups Salvation Army Federated Charities and the American Legion pledge support while Red Cross provision for new home steps up. The story notes Christmas gifts lost and community drives by the VFW Auxiliary and others to supply essentials.
