Ostracized For Winning Case In Tax Prosecution
Justice Department prosecutor John Mitchell testified that T Lamar Caudle, then Assistant Attorney General, ostracized him after Mitchell won a tax evasion case in Mobile. Mitchell said Caudle and Rep Frank Boykin improperly influenced the case, and Caudle later told him not to expect more work. The case, involving about 400,000 dollars, led to guilty pleas and jail terms for Joseph Mitchell and Samuel Ripps. Caudle faced removal as Assistant Attorney General after the hearings.
