Virginia teen wins at Montgomery County Fair llama show

Erin Humphrey, 14, a Loudoun 4-H member, showed a yearling named Exempla in the open llama class, finishing among the top three. She described llamas as unique and personable, though their spitting and odor can be offputting. Exempla won juvenile female llama and intermediate showmanship firsts, with other winners named in male and female divisions, as the fair lists today’s livestock events.

Boats blamed for Baltimore smog by EPA findings

EPA officials say pleasure boats in the Baltimore area emit about 16 tons of smog forming hydrocarbons daily. A 50 horsepower outboard can match the pollution of a car traveling 80 miles per hour for one hour, igniting a broader look at gasoline powered polluters beyond cars. Maryland officials note cars and trucks remain the major smog source.
