Bowling Home Destroyed in Howard County Fire
Fire of undetermined origin completely destroyed a two story six room residence near Glenwood occupied by T. J. Bowling and family while they attended a carnival in Sykesville Wednesday night. Five fire companies fought the blaze, but water shortages and distant hydrants hampered efforts. Neighbors reported the fire shortly after 8 pm and volunteers from multiple departments assisted, with Mt. Airy and Damascus coordinating coverage as others were diverted to a parade. The remodeled schoolhouse stood apart from the highway and the family’s losses included furnishings and personal items. exact figures were not available after the ruins were surveyed.
