Antiwar Panel Told Of Viet Women Children Killed
Former soldier Danny Notley testified before an unofficial antiwar panel about a 1969 massacre in Truong Khanh Ti Quang Ngai Province where about 30 unarmed Vietnamese women and children were killed after an artillery officer demanded “I want some tills.” Notley described the unit’s actions following an ambush that killed a popular GI. He said the killings were systematic and that no one was held accountable. The panel, led by Rep. Ronald Dellums, questioned witnesses about U.S. conduct in the war.

State HRC To Probe Hiring Practices Of Armco Steel
The Maryland Human Relations Commission will probe Armco Steel Corp pre 1965 hiring and promotion policies as hearings into alleged Black discrimination begin. Chair William Adkins says past practices may show criteria used for promotions while Armco disputes the scope. Blacks are about 29 percent of production. only one of 85 supervisory posts is held by a Black, and 38 of 39 promotions since July 1, 1965 went to whites. The panel seeks Black promotions, expanded Black representation in supervision, and back pay for losses since 1965.

Vacuum cleans air at Cumberland quarry
In Cumberland Maryland a giant vacuum cleaner improves air at the Cumberland Cement and Supply Co rock cut quarry. An $85,000 dust collection system with a 100 horsepower exhaust draws dusty air into a 28 by 28 foot baghouse, replacing water spray purification and meeting federal state air standards. Baghouse bags filter particles, keeping air cleaner for Corriganville neighbors. The Pangborn Co of Hagerstown supplied the equipment. The project aligns with a WWI era ideal echoed by Woodrow Wilson.
