400 Future Business Leaders To Meet At TJ

Governor Thomas Johnson High School hosts the 15th annual Maryland FBLA leadership conference attracting about 400 attendees. TJ officers lead arrangements with state officials coordinating assemblies contests exhibitions from IBM 3M Monroe Friden and others. County Takes Over Winchester Hall Lot Parking Change

County commissioners officially assumed ownership of the Winchester Hall parking lot turning it into a Monday through Friday employee lot with free public parking at night and on weekends. Downtown HUD discussions shape downtown renewal plan

Federal aid steps for a downtown renovation were outlined in a Thursday meeting with HUD officials. Rep. Byron and Beall appeared as planners outlined financing under the neighborhood development program and suggested renovating rather than razing housing in the south downtown area. A house to house survey showed most residents own homes but cannot afford basic improvements, with parking cited as a major issue. HUD noted the North Market Street vacant Frederick Community College could win a multipurpose center grant, subject to an eligible public agency applying.

Cultural Funds Sought For Schools

James L. Fisher of the Symphony Society asks Frederick County Commissioners to fund 20000 for the Board of Education cultural programs next year. The program began as a federal project, but the grant expired last year and local funding is sought to continue concerts plays and other cultural activities in schools. The commissioners said no decision had been made on the education budget yet.
