A bold nighttime express robbery occurred on the Southern Railway near Branchville at about 7 pm. Seven or eight men seized the engineer, fired shots, and forced the express car crew to open the safe. The train returned to Branchville with cars uncoupled and no passengers harmed. Special to The New York Times reports in Omaha that a 23 mile bridge will span the Great Salt Lake for Southern Pacific with 12 miles over deep water and the rest on earth foundations faced with stone. Immense steel trestles will be built and the work should take two years. Completion will cut distance by 45 miles and create a long high grade.
