Fire destroys seven story building at Bleecker Mott corner
A two hour blaze raged through a seven story brick building at Bleecker and Mott last night, four alarms, flames leaping fifty feet, endangering a row of tenements and dozens of residents. Firefighters retreated through smoke and backdrafts, saving the Italian Church of Our Lady of Loretto behind the fire. Commissioner Sturgis was drenched by a burst hose. The ground floor housed Feller's cafe and several firms. total damage estimated at $50,000 with additional losses to nearby tenements.
