Strack by Lightning Destroys Barn and Farm Equipment
A lightning strike Saturday afternoon June 14 leveled John Grim’s large frame bank barn near Ebrebart’s store in Berwick township Adams county. The blaze consumed the barn and 150 bushels corn 90 bushels rye 17 tons hay and straw plus harness and farming gear including a threshing machine and binder. Loss about 3500 with 1100 insured. contents uninsured. Wm Hartman’s grain shed and nearby homes suffered minor damage from bolts.

Man Charged in Darr Robbery Near Churchtown
Carlisle Sentinel reports 36 year old Yohe, formerly of Churchtown, is arrested as a suspect in the Darr robbery near Churchtown last week. Officer Eberly pursued a description, mistaken a first suspect, then detained Yohe in Adams County. He awaits a hearing in a few days. penalties cited include burglary up to 105 dollar fine and ten years, or serious assault with intent to kill up to 1000 dollar fine and four years.

Narrow Escape From Fire at Weaver Manufacturing Co
Last Friday night a small blaze started at the cupalo furnace in the Weaver Manufacturing Co foundry and machine shops on Hanover street. Harry Smith alerted the proprietors who, with other employees, extinguished the flames before serious damage. The firm has since added hose and organized an emergency fire department under Mr. Harry Deatrich, preventing further loss.
