Mayflower II replica rises from Devon oaks in New Plymouth landmark
In New Plymouth the Mayflower II project uses Devon Oak timbers from Brixham for its keel and ribs and West Coast Douglas Fir for masts. A 100 acre site near the Bell River will host replicas of 19 half timber houses and the Parson Capen House, built 1683, stands as a key example. The effort links to Plimoth Plantation and reflects a revived interest in Pilgrim-era New England.
