Farmers Good Neighors Hypocrisy in Burley Idaho

Visiting Burley Idaho at the Farm Bureau invitation, I saw the desert tamed by irrigation. Dave Burley diverted Snake River water and Julian Clawson pioneered wells and electric pumps to revive the land. Cooperation among farms made the Snake River plain bloom with green from Cassia and Minidoka counties, a testament to the good neighbor philosophy.

Governor Robert C Holmes appointed three Oregon lawyers to new circuit court posts. Mayor Robert C Belloni of Myrtle Point becomes 15th district judge for Coos and Curry counties. Edward C Kelly of Medford joins First Judicial District for Jackson and Josephine counties. Richard Anderson of Newport serves Lincoln county in the 21st district. All are Democrats and take office immediately.

Youth Summer Recreation Schedule Moves Ahead

Myrtle Point youth recreation opens week of June 24 28 with Pee Wee games at 5 p m basketball at 7 30 p m in Myrtle Crest gym and high school cafeteria social dancing begins Friday June 28 at 8 00 p m for the high school group with Junior High dancing following every other Wednesday. Jaycees lead with Jack Orr as youth director and Edgar Moon chairing the social nights.

Explorer Scouts Plan Trip to Philmont Scout Ranch

The Myrtle Point Troop 99 Explorer Scouts plan a July 6 to July 30 expedition to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico with eight Myrtle Point, four Arago, one North Bend, and two Eugene boys. They travel by bus driven by Jack Knife and are supervised by Arlo Duncan and Mrs Duncan, camping nightly and cooking their own meals under Scout Rangers.

George Linn to be Installed American Legion Commander

George Linn will be installed as Commander of American Legion Post No. 37 at a Friday ceremony. The joint installation with Coquille post is Friday night June 21 at 7 p.m. in the Myrtle Hotel. Other local officers include Frank Meldrum and James Orrel.

Schroeder Named TRIP Staffer For European Sailings

Walter G. Schroeder, county extension 4 H agent from Corvallis and a UW Madison graduate, is appointed Recreation director aboard the TRIP shipboard program. He will sail June 18 from New York on the AROGA SKY to Europe, returning August 23, visiting farms and festivals and meeting European extension workers. His wife Sally Schroeder accompanies him.

Elden Brodie New Mayor of Myrtle Point After Belloni Resigns

Elden Brodie elected unanimously to serve the remaining 18 months of Mayor Belloni's term after Belloni resigned to become Circuit Judge. Ray Harris presided. Brodie previously served on the council. City provides update on a $1,000 suit from cement contractor Giberson and votes to vacate a street between Borders and Maple.
