Isabella County Fair Opens With Strong Attendance
Isabella County Fair opens Tuesday night drawing a good crowd with exceptionally large attendance on Wednesday. Exhibits deadline is Wednesday noon as organizers report numerous entries across departments. The stock barns are full and more than sixty racing horses are on site with a diverse poultry display and extensive Indian School handiwork. Local businesses occupy booths in the industrial building and auto tents showcase Ford and Buick makes along with external electric displays. Muskrat Killed At Bank Corner In Mt Pleasant
A large muskrat was killed by a barber in Berry's barbershop on the corner of Normal and Broadway beneath the Isabella County State Bank last Friday. The animal was heard scratching a door in front of the shop before the barber investigated and mistook it for a rat. The route the muskrat took through Mt Pleasant remains unknown.

Fishing Trip Ends in Death Near Kane's Landing
Isaac N. Gulick, 77, a former farmer and longtime city resident, died of heart failure after a day of fishing near Kane's landing on the Chippewa River. He collapsed shortly after arriving at the landing with Clarence Thayer. burial followed at Riverside Cemetery after funeral at Mrs. John Brown's home. He was born October 22, 1848 in Ohio and survived by three daughters and a son.

Secret Service Trail Follows Mt Pleasant Counterfeit Ring
A U S secret service operative has tracked counterfeit five dollar bills in Jackson region and nearby towns. Eight notes circulated in Mt Pleasant with altered one dollar designs, including scratched phrases and altered numerals. The crude fakes bearing George Washington’s image were detected in Isabella County banks and stores, with the investigation continuing.

Detroit Man Dies in Accidental Drowning at Stephenson Lake
John Milka aged 36 drowned Saturday night while fishing alone at Stephenson Lake north of Detroit. His brother in law found an overturned boat an hour and a half later. Body recovered at dawn less than twenty feet from shore. Coroner and sheriff ruled accidental drowning. Milka, unmarried, was staying at a cottage owned by a Detroit relative. Funeral held in Detroit earlier this week.

Johnson building on the fair grounds where Johnson received a rising vote of thanks. A ball game followed and officers were elected then a short program. City Officials Sign Contract for Large Well
Mt Pleas ant city commission signed a contract with Harmon Ness of Indianapolis a Layne Bowler subsidiary for an $11 500 well project to supply 864 000 gallons daily for one year with water hardness under 550 ppm and state health approval. The 26 inch bore well will use Layne Bowler screen tech. depth to be set after test wells. If depth differs the contractor may withdraw at no city cost. A vertical pump an auxiliary motor and automatic controls will provide 40 to 100 psi. Contract awaits executive approval before work begins.

Mt Pleasant leads Michigan cities on Central Normal summer term honor roll with 37 from one delegation.
