A. D. Vanderbeck's state champion pulling team fell to George Abbott of Elwell as his owned and driven team pulled 22 900 pounds. Vanderbeck's team, from Forest Hill, started but failed to reach the distance in three tries, ending within 9 inches. Gorham Brothers team driven by Myron Davis finished third with 2 800 pounds. A new lighter-class winner, L. Thren’s team pulled 2 450 pounds 18 feet 5 inches, eclipsing E. Foote’s 2 400 pounds 27 feet to take second, with Fred Campbell’s 2 400 pounds 25 feet 6 inches in third.

Inspection of County Roads Begins Tour of System Check
County officials launched the annual inspection tour to assess road conditions and future needs. The party will cover every mile of the county road system through the week, including the road commission, board committees, clerk Perry Thompson, clerk Bert W. Shangle, and engineer Merle Johnson. Local supporters in Isabella County back Ernest Cameron formerly of Mt. Pleasant for the state superintendent of public instruction. Auto wreck claims life of two year old boy

Fair Week Racers Set for Saginaw 100 Lap Race
At Saginaw on Labor Day Sam and Elvin Ross of Isabella county will race in the fourth annual 100 lap event. Sam Ross, 1925 state champion, defends his title with a new car. John B. Snelenberger aged 67 of Mt Pleasant died at his East Broadway home Friday night after a illness of less than a week. He had been district manager for the Lansing State Journal in Clare Isabella and northern Gratiot counties during seven years in Mt Pleasant. Born in 1869 on a farm in Paulding County Ohio he previously resided in Angola Indiana and was a traveling representative for the Duluth Herald.

High School Enrollment Expected to Surpass Last Year

Local Doctor Loses Coat With Drugs
Dr C D Pullen reports his coat stolen from his car in front of his office on Friday evening. He suspects a drug addict targeted the coat for morphine doses and notes items like his state issued driver's license a hypo dermic with morphine and his pocket clinical record were inside. He says the thief can keep the coat but hopes the containing items are returned.
New Enamel Factory to Open in Mt Pleasant on Labor Day

Jail Used as Hospital for Accident Victim Joe Coleman
Joe Coleman, seriously injured when his car left the Chippewa near the Red Bridge, lay in Isabella county jail two days before friends moved him to his Deerfield township home Monday night. He had been transported from a local doctor’s office after the county hospital was overfull.
