Blind Mount Dora Sage Dr D B Spencer Remains Active
Dr D B Spencer, aged 94 and totally blind, still reads through library volumes sent by the Library of Congress and discusses world affairs with sharp insight. He guides his own errands, aids local children who help him, and plans to leave any unclaimed estate to feed the starving in Europe. Born on an Indian reservation near the Mississippi headwaters, he survived Sioux attacks that killed his mother and later returned to help found memorials. He has lived in Mount Dora 28 years and once led the Community church ministry for 15 years while remaining engaged in local clubs and tourism activities.

Florida legal advertising rates rise for first time since 1877
The Florida legislature increases minimum legal notice rates from 50 to 70 cents per square inch for the first insertion and from 25 to 40 cents for subsequent insertions. The change, effective May 12, aims to cover higher publishing costs amid paper shortages and general price gains. The measure, supported by both chambers, reflects inflation affecting newspapers since 1940.
