Mayor Names Mount Dora Fire Prevention Board

Mayor J. F. Fortner plans to appoint a Mount Dora fire prevention board to act on President Truman's request for country wide action. After a Monday meeting with Fire Chief Ernest Mosteller, the board should be named by week’s end to coordinate with a statewide group and the other 47 state committees. The push follows the Washington conference of May 8 noting fire losses last year exceeded 10,000 lives and 561 million dollars in property, with higher risks in 1947 without quick action.

Fifty Donors Needed For Local Quota

Mount Dora Lions Club calls for fifty healthy civic-minded men and women to meet the local blood plasma quota. The Blood Bank mobile unit will be at the Chamber of Commerce building from 1 30 to 7 p m tomorrow, no advance registration required.

Mount Dora Lions club American Legion and Kiwanis invite residents to an 8 p.m. May 28 lecture by Dr Louis Colman at the Community hall auditorium. Colman, a French native and former Paris plastic surgeon, will discuss the United Nations and Europe. Winter resident of Sylvan Shores for ten years John B McDonald died suddenly in East Liverpool Ohio He will be buried there Wednesday He leaves widow Amelia a son John Jr and two daughters Mrs Gordon Folger of Sylvan Shores and Mrs Jayson Brooks of East Liverpool Folgers drove to Ohio for services and were to return Saturday He had lived in Mount Dora four winters before moving to Sylvan Shores

Mount Dora Yacht Club Sees Busy Summer Nights

The Mount Dora Yacht Club hosts regular Thursday dinners with Steward Merrill Turner praised for summer meals. Last week 79 guests attended the lake-front event and porches work is planned. Ed Jacques of Leesburg hosted a stag buffet while Mrs Regie Packer Mrs Ernie Green and George Vincent co hosted a dessert bridge and stork shower for Mrs Glen Chapman. Six bridge tables produced winners Mrs Bud Markt Mrs Harry Hopcraft and Mrs Leon Cheet. Sunday dinners remain popular with roast beef a favorite and public play at Mount Dora nine holes priced from $1 to $1.50.
