The Mount Dora High Points editorial laments worn-out printing gear and proposes a student led shift to minds over ink. It vows a subscription drive to fund journalism and to revive school clubs and spirit through constructive programs and broader student participation.
Graduating exercises were held Friday May 29 1931 at eight o'clock in the Municipal Auditorium. The event featured members of the class and faculty participating in the ceremony.
Firestone dealers challenge rival mail order claims and urge customers to verify tire comparisons themselves. Cross sections from special brand mail order tires and Firestone tires are offered for direct, independent inspection to judge quality construction and prices.
A detailed program lists processional hymns and readings by Rev J H Elder and other speakers. It includes salutatory by Slack, valedictory by Abby Joyprece, duets and choruses, and a keynote by J Math erly on modern commerce. Mrs L C Jerne receives PTA Honor Medal and overdue honors are presented to Frances Ruth Elder Mauride Harvey Marguerite Simpson. A reception sponsored by the sophomore class for Dean Matherly and graduates follows in the social rooms.
The Mount Dora High School faculty includes D. D. Rose Professor R and Laney with several teachers led by Miss Hubbell and Miss Taylor. The P T A with Mrs. Jerne organized programs, and plans for next year include expanded courses, vocational training for boys, and renewed emphasis on academics before athletics. Athletics showed progress with girls leading in basketball and tennis, and donors promising prizes for outstanding student athletes next year.
