The Orlando lawn bowling match was cancelled due to insufficient signups amid spring fever and possible exoduses from Mount Dora. The club installed a sprinkler system, Vince Burlingame donated an air conditioner, and Doc Bennett underwrote its installation.
Mount Dora Public Library shelves expand with new nonfiction titles on history theatre and science by authors such as Richard Dillon Hermi Allan Lewis Travis Bogard and Bruno Rossi and new fiction from Irwin Shaw Gavin Lyall Noel Coward and Daphne Du Maurier among others The library also notes many duplicates removed and on sale in the basement run by the Mount Dora Woman's Club with many titles available at small prices.
Howey-in-the Hills exceeded its quota in the Cancer Crusade with $833.20 raised toward a $550 target. Col. A. B. Marshall, Lake County Crusade Chairman, announced the achievement.

Funeral services were held at Greenwood Cemetery on Wednesday May 12 at 5 p.m. for Rayford Mark McAlister four day old son of Mr and Mrs Andrew Owen McAlister. He is survived by his parents paternal grandmother Elizabeth McAlister of Mount Dora paternal grandfather Andrew McAlister of Miami and maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Robert A Connelly of Beedesville. Zeller Kennedy and Hamlin Funeral Home Eustis directed arrangements.
