Mount Dora AAU Swim Team Registration Set

Mount Dora Swim Club president Clark Staton announced registration for the AAU team at the pool by the high school this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Additional signup will run next Monday and Tuesday from 3 30 to 4 30 p.m. First practice is next Wednesday from 4 30 to 6 p.m. Fees are 3 dollars per family plus 2 dollars per child, covering insurance. the pool will be closed for public swimming during registration.

City Receives 7234 In Cigarette Tax Share

Bon Morris of the State Beverage Department announced March 1965 net cigarette tax receipts totaled 5,354,741.14 dollars. Mount Dora will get 7,234.67 dollars as its portion of the distribution to qualified municipalities.

Susan Claire Bardwell of Tangerine received the A. B. degree in English at Florida Southern College during its 80th commencement. She held student government roles as secretary-treasurer of the junior class and vice president of the senior class, belonged to Sigma Tau Delta and Alpha Delta Pi, and participated in Vagabonds. She graduated in 1961 from Mount Dora School, daughter of Betty Bardwell of Exeter Farms.

Orlando T-Birds Open July 4 Slate in Tangerine Bowl

The Orlando Thunderbirds, ranked as the nation’s top minor league pro football team, begin the 1965 Southern Football League with a July 4 game against the Charlotte Vikings at the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando. Regular home games start July 4 and run through September with opponents including Knoxville Bears and Atlanta Mustangs. A charity exhibition in Chattanooga is set for June 26 but not part of the regular schedule.
