Florida Central graduation set for 57 seniors Saturday

Fifty seven seniors from Florida Central Academy will receive high school diplomas at 10 15 a m Saturday with post graduate work by six others. Dr Harris W Dean Southern Association of Colleges and Schools will be principal speaker. A 9 a m breakfast precedes the ceremony at the academy in Sorrento with remarks from Gen T L Alexander James Bertrand and Headmaster Robert M Phillips.

Memorial Day Rites Planned By Legion Post

Mount Dora Post 35 of the American Legion plans Memorial Day services Monday at 11 am at Mount Dora Cemetery with Leighton Baker as principal speaker. Post members will decorate veterans' graves and place flags. A Sunday church service at First Presbyterian is also noted. Commander Clarence D. Owen of WWI Barracks 3227 urges wider veteran attendance.

Reedy Backs Highway Bond To Four-Lane Florida Roads

Lake County Representative W. H. Bill Reedy urged the 300 million highway bond plan on the Florida House floor. He said four-laning U S Highway 27 through Lake County and State Road 50 would attract tourists and industries, potentially making Florida the leading state in four-lane highways. He spoke as the session ran late, noting the bond would add 1 207 miles of four-laned roads.

IceHouse honors Albert Crone at annual Mount Dora banquet

Anita Kauffman won top lead actress, Bill Rodda top lead actor, and Dorothy Watson received the director's award for script work. Harry C. IceHouse to stage A Thousand Clowns send-off on June 6

IceHouse Theatre board announces a special Sunday night performance of A Thousand Clowns to raise funds for the IceHouse team’s trip to the Florida State Theatre Festival in St. Petersburg. Cast includes Bill Rodda Frankie Abel Keith Oliver James Oliver and John Wimberly. Admission is 1 with 8:30 p.m. curtain. The festival runs June 5 to 12 with IceHouse slated to perform June 10.

Fund started to aid East Town fire victims

Milner-Rosenwald Academy principal C O Lott opened a relief fund for Mrs. Thelma Shaw whose East Town home burned Sunday. He contributed $5 and will coordinate the campaign. Mount Dora Swim Club Names Events Chairmen

About 30 parents attended the Mount Dora Swim Club kickoff as the AAU summer program takes shape. Club President Clark Staton and Coach Jim Jackson announced the first meet set for Leesburg on June 19 and 20, with about 50 youngsters already enrolled. Committee chairmen include Wendy Husebo invitational meet, Whit Davis and Mr Rayhill as meet chairs, Mrs Claire Seabrook publicity, Mrs Gordon Hayes transportation, Mrs Helen Whittington awards, and Mrs Joe Melvin swim suits.

Driggers Heads UF Loyalty Fund Drive for Mount Dora

Don Driggers will chair the University of Florida Alumni Loyalty Fund Drive in Mount Dora. The fund supports CLASP Scholarships, Dollars for Scholars, and the Dr John J Tigert Alumni Chair of Distinction. Lake County UF alumni contributed $2800 last year through 131 former students.
