Grape Growers Plan Shipping Strategy in Florida
Directors of the Florida Grape Growers Exchange met in Tavares on Thursday night to plan bulk grape disposal for the May opening. Small growers receive special consideration as the group aims to standardize grades and prices, stabilize marketing, and foster cooperation among vineyard owners statewide. Grapes have been sold in Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, Daytona Beach, and other Florida cities, often delivered by truck to dealers or sold directly from growers.

County Agent Hiatt reports April field work 16 percent of days, 94 percent in the office, 93 farm and grove calls countywide. Nine field meetings drew 160 attendees. eight 4-H clubs saw 125 boys. 14,000 pounds of crotalaria seed handled, 130 office visitors, 61 calls, 1058 letters, 2150 miles traveled. Poultry association meeting May 8 at Jack Allen’s Umatilla drew about 85. 4-H boys attended. State officials Mehrhof and Rhodes aided poultry and marketing efforts. temporary cooperative marketing group formed for sweet potatoes with officers named.

Dr. H. E. Barnard, chairman of the White House conference commission, told a Lake County Public Health Association mass meeting that oranges have high vitamin value for children. He cited fact-finding commissions placing orange juice on the preferred list due to its rich vitamin content.

The Florida Department of Game and Fresh Water Fish relies on license funds to conserve wildlife. In April there were 76 arrests for violations including fishing without license and taking game out of season.
