Annual Poppy Day Observed Saturday in Mount Dora

The Mount Dora Legion Auxiliary will sell Buddy poppies at several points to aid disabled soldiers and their families. The drive highlights 2500 American servicemen deaths since WWI and 5900 veterans entering government hospitals monthly in 1929. Memorial events for local members are planned, with Alvin York delivering a Memorial address via NBC on May 25.

Florida sets 1931 license tag colors white on maroon

Florida motor vehicle commissioner W. B. McLin announced that 1931 motor vehicle tags will feature white type on maroon backgrounds. He notes that the white on green scheme used previously was unpopular with department officials and says he was given authority by the board to choose next year’s colors, making a quick decision.

Plans In Progress For National Park In Everglades

Secretary Wilbur plans to recommend establishing a National Park in the Cape Sable region after a committee reported the area meets park standards. He cites its tropical flora and fauna and educational value, arguing it should be preserved in its natural state for future generations. The Cape Sable area lies about fifty miles nearer the equator than other U S regions.
