The Mount Dora area announced dates for two popular spring events. The Sailing Regatta is set for April 8 and 9, 1972, while the Antique Car Club of America Florida Division Tour runs April 16 to 18, 1972.
Officials at Mount Dora City Hall learned Florida Power plans to cancel its five year wholesale supply contract when the 1975 expiry arrives. FPC will seek a wholesale rate increase from the Federal Power Commission this fall, with any approved rise not affecting the 1970 contract term. Leesburg is the only other Lake County city involved.
A reader recalls a dining incident where they and their spouse were quietly watched by nearby patrons who seemed to recognize them from Mount Dora and Leesburg. The event ends with a light laugh and a pledge to reintroduce themselves to friends they meet again.
Ground was broken for Mount Dora and Lake County’s first condominium apartment house with Mayor Jesse Willmott turning the first spadeful of earth. The 48 unit project at Grand View Street and First Avenue overlooks Lake Dora, with completion targeted for March 1972. Allan Jones and Harvey Spears partner in the venture. six units already sold. Prices for 2 and 3 bedroom flats range from 26500 to 31950. The city welcomes the acquisition for Mount Dora.
Francis G. Seabrook appointed Mount Dora branch manager for First Federal Savings and Loan. Former Air Force captain served five years including a Japan assignment. previously worked in Eustis. University of Florida graduate. married to Kathie Keel. Grant Carter Jr. moves to Eustis as Assistant Vice President and Treasurer.
The Mount Dora City Court docket lists defendants and charges including Willie J. Simon careless driving with notice and warrant, Gertrude Kalvin FTHVUC with $27 bond and fine, Jamie Williams unlawful speed and resisting arrest with surety bond, John Majors FTHVUC bond $27, Leon Frazier disorderly conduct with $27 fine and 5 days, Bruce McClelland stopping on roadway with notice not guilty, Martha Harvill FTHVUC bond and fine, Terry Felty FTYROW with $27 fine, August Flaharty FTYROW with $27 fine, Tilman Smith intoxicated person in control and resisting arrest with $189 fine, 20 days and 5 months license suspension.
Area organizations are notified the Community Building will close for the first two weeks of August. Hostess Mrs. Sylvia Cook and staff take vacations, visiting Bainbridge Georgia and Tennessee. Custodian Leonard Geigerich recuperates from eye surgery. building reopens Monday after the break.
