Mrs. Betty Ann Kahler was bitten in her bed by a rabid fox that entered the Kahler home at 723 South Grandview Street. The animal fled toward a golf course where it was killed by neighbor David Smith. The city reported several dogs bitten and destroyed as precautions. Health officials urged nearby residents to check pets and consider booster shots. Kahler continued rabies treatment for 14 days.
City Council votes 5 to 2 to raise the tax rate to 9 mills to generate about 40,000 dollars annually for capital improvements. Proposals include extending sewer lines, upgrading the treatment plant, and paving streets with projects ranging up to 500,000 dollars.
