A Mount Dora resident sent a letter to Ann Landers that described a party game based on her column. Landers replied she did not mind the game. The note included the signer as DC. The piece also notes local Seabrook brothers advancing in Mount Dora businesses along Donnelly Street.
A. E. Glatfelter, biology teacher at Hampton- Du Bose Academy in Zellwood, keeps Mica a three ounce marmoset adopted from Brazil. The tiny pet, about 12 inches long with a long unused tail, has settled in, climbing on its owner and a German shepherd, waking late, and eating insects raisins and condensed milk. Reporter notes interest in local marmoset neighbors.
The Mount Dora Council hears Lake County Office of Economic Opportunity plan for a county wide bus route with eight 15 passenger vehicles. One bus would run six round trips daily from East Town to Golden Triangle via downtown as stops are designated. The council also ponders downtown parking, with a proposed Baker Street and Fifth Avenue lot to add about 20 spaces and voted to make an offer.
Dave Edgerton will head the Mount Dora United Appeal campaign next October announced by Maj. Gen. Emmett Tally. Mount Dora aims for 14500 with the county goal at 106000. Eustis and Tavares also set targets as three new agencies join the effort including Crisis Intervention Center Waterman Hospital the Poison Control Center Leesburg General Hospital and the Day Care Center Leesburg.
A state wide quarantine on movement of horses mules and other equine goes into effect Aug 3 with movement restricted to vaccination centers. After 14 days post vaccination animals may move within the state with proof. County sheriffs will track vaccinated horses and permits from the State Veterinarian allow entry for vaccination at destination. Farmers urged to contact local vets 24 hours prior and call the Lake County Agricultural Center with animal details for the census. $4 per animal will be paid.
