Donnelly House and Family Life in Mount Dora
The Donnelly family shaped Mount Dora history from the 19th century onward. Nellie Donnelly married Charles Griffith, producing two generations and three grandchildren. J. P. Donnelly, a prominent promoter and first Mount Dora mayor, built the “gingerbread” house facing Donnelly Street and funded Annie E. Donnelly Park. The property later hosted multiple businesses and residences, surviving into civic memory as a symbol of the town’s fortunes and misfortunes. The house remained in good repair under the Masonic Lodge after Donnelly’s 1930 death, echoing the lives once lived there.
