Merchants Association of Mount Dora schedules a special 7:30 p.m. February 1 meeting at the Garden Gate. President Tyrone Parker noted the February session follows a lively regular meeting that included Al Berry's report on downtown improvements and financing options.
Joe Jenkins recently retired Lake County public instruction superintendent was honored by the Lake County Board of Public Instruction for distinguished service. The board adopted a resolution praising his eight years in county duties while noting his roles as student athlete teacher coach principal educator and administrator. Jack Morgan of Mount Dora succeeded Jenkins as county school superintendent.
State Sen. Scott Kelly of Lakeland will be principal speaker at the seventh annual Lake County Jaycee Distinguished Service Award Banquet set for 7 30 p m Saturday at the Community Building. Fred Sanwald said all county Jaycees and their wives are invited. E E Wyn Brown Mount Dora Jaycees will preside. Mayor Jesse Willmott will welcome guests and State Sen. Wel born Daniel of Clermont will present the principal award.
Seabrook Pharmacy at 639 N Donnelly St announces a grand opening open house Friday from 8 30 a m to 8 30 p m. Owner William B Seabrook Jr says day and night prescription service free delivery and a wide range of pharmaceuticals cosmetics candies magazines and greeting cards will be offered.
The City Council of Mount Dora considers transferring city funds to the Bank of Mount Dora at the Golden Triangle Shopping Center. The request comes from E Budge Mead chairman of the bank board, presented by vice president and cashier William V Proctor. The finance committee and city clerk were tasked to study and recommend.
A Mount Dora resident reports her phone to be dead for outgoing calls while the line rang constantly from noon to 2 pm with long distance attempts. She notes one caller greeted her as a friend, and praises persistent long distance operators who kept retrying to reach her party.
Mount Dora mothers and youth group members plan a door to door drive Tuesday to raise funds for the March of Dimes. They will gather at 6 15 p m in the First Baptist Church Social Room and begin the march at 6 30 p m.
Edmund A. Chester of Chester Farms Inc was elected a director of the Bank of Mount Dora at the bank’s annual stockholders and directors meeting. E Budge Mead chairman reported progress at the new bank and that plans for a permanent Center building are to be completed soon with construction under way.
Dr J J Hartsfield of Eustis will speak on veterinary medicine as a career to Lake County Agri Science Club members at the Lake County Agriculture Center today Thursday. Members parents leaders and others interested are invited to attend.
The Mount Dora Lions Club announces a February sale of 6-6-6 All-Purpose fertilizer to aid the club's blind welfare fund. Priced at $2.75 per 100 pounds, deliveries are set for February 6, 13, 20 and 27. Orders can be placed through Lake Oil Co. or Triangle Oil, Link Stationery & Printing Co., or any Lions member.

Dial president of the First National Bank at Orlando will headline the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce annual dinner meeting set for 6 30 p m Friday February 5 at the Community Building Six new directors will be nominated to fill posts held by fellow officers and long time directors The chamber will also distribute its annual report Tickets are $1 50 each and seating is limited Tickets available at the chamber office City Hall and from members of the committee
The Lake County Chamber of Commerce announced gross sales for November 1964 reached $10,515,051.87, up $2,007,655.94 from November 1963, reflecting a notable year over year increase in the county's trade activity.

H Merritt Britt described Florida’s World’s Fair involvement to the Mount Dora Rotary Club. He said 700000 servings of citrus juice were sold at Minute Maid exhibits in Orlando, noting Gov. Bryant’s pre freezes commitment and plans to improve the Florida display for next summer.
The city council tabled the annexation request for two Limit Street parcels including the Ebony Bar to Feb 2, citing absence of Councilman Vason and to allow full body consideration. The liquor outlet currently closes at midnight, not 2 a.m., and other East Town objections and right of way issues were discussed during the meeting.
A broken transmission line cut 66 000 volts from the Florida Power Corp to Mount Dora, triggering a citywide outage. Officials ordered a city power cut as crews from FP C repaired the line near Outlook Drive Heim Road. power was restored by about 1 p.m. Leaving residents in cold and coffee scarce.
Readings for A Thous and Clowns and Tea and Sympathy will be held Friday at 7 30 p.m. at Ice House Theatre on Unser Street Director George Vaughan announced. Rehearsals for Clowns start tomorrow ahead of Feb 9 13 performances. Some casting occurred Tuesday after IceHouse monthly meeting.
