North Carolina State Highway Commission launches a three month travel survey starting Tuesday to gauge highway needs and tourist facilities within 50 to 75 miles of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. A six person team will conduct about 25 000 motorist interviews during June July and August with park rangers at three stations to manage traffic. The project costs about 17000 dollars with shared funding from the U S Bureau of Public Roads and the Tennessee and North Carolina highway departments.
