The Moulton Eagle upgrades to seven columns as a larger, faster paper. The editor notes improved layout and press, inviting news tips on crops, livestock, weddings, baptisms, reunions, building, church and school activities, sports, and organizational reports.
Bobby Dickey of Bay City earned the title best all around boy at the States Championship High School Rodeo in Hallettsville with 200 points by winning bronc riding and placing second in steer wrestling. Sonny Sikes of Mexia was runner up with 190 points. Other top finishers included Roy Thompson Stinnett and Scooter Fries Bandera tied for third with 180 points. Nola Jane Coppender Aransas Pass was named best all around girl after sweeping the three go arounds in the girls barrel race.
John W. Doremus of the Austin cotton classing office of the U S Department of Agriculture explains that any organized cotton improvement group of farmers is eligible for free USDA cotton classing and market news services under the Smith Doxey Act. The August 1 deadline requires early filing to avoid delays.
County Judge Paul H. Fertsch reports Lavaca county conducted 5088 X-ray chest tests on Wednesday morning. Of these, 103 showed chest trouble suggesting TB while 52 indicated chest issues but not TB.

Rev and Mrs K Windecker celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary last Saturday. The couple was joined by family including Arnold Windecker Roland Windecker Freeport Anita Wind decker Austin and Fritz Treptow Halletsville to help observe the occasion.

Transfers affect transportation eligibility and average daily attendance counts for the receiving district. Failure to transfer results in tuition payments not exceeding the cost of instruction by the parent or guardian.

According to a year old agreement Moulton businesses will observe the 174th anniversary of Independence Day on Tuesday July 4. No public celebration is planned locally but many residents may join the event in Shiner.
Dimmitt Perkins, son of Mr and Mrs C C Perkins of San Antonio, came Monday to help at The Eagle office. He is grandson of Mr and Mrs O F Knape of Moulton and graduated with high honors from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio last month.
A Lavaca County 4-H club hosted Brush Eradication and Pasture Improvement Day at the James R. Ragsdale ranch 15 miles east of Hallettsville on Vienna Road. The event starts July 6 at 10:00 AM with brush cutting demonstrations using a Caldwell brush cutter and weed cutter, grass identification contest, and range management discussions for cattlemen facing brush problems. Sandwiches and cold drinks will be served.
An exciting softball game at Lions Club field on Thursday June 22 saw the Legion defeat the Geier Merrem sponsored team 11 to 10. Key moments included Steve Fisbeck of the Chamber of Commerce homering with the bases loaded in the second inning and Daniel Haas rallying the Legion with a two on homer in the final inning.
A 5 pound 14 ounce daughter was born at Dr Hugo J Strieder Hospital to Mr and Mrs Elo Seifert of near Moulton on Thursday June 22 at 4 14 AM.
Mrs. Joe Malinek of Schulenburg was injured in a car crash Monday evening. She sustained four broken ribs and other injuries and was taken to Weimar Hospital. Her husband Henry Malinek and son Sidney John visited her at the hospital Tuesday evening.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sherry of Moulton on Sunday June 11 at 11 00 AM at Dr Hugo J Strieder Hospital. The baby weighed 7 pounds 2 ounces and is named Cornelia Marie.
The June 12 ceremony at St Joseph Catholic Church united Anita Jemelka and George Stavinoha with Rev John Matocha presiding. The reception followed at the bride’s home as music by the Henkhaus Playboys and a Cotton Grove dance completed the day. Otto Keil of Moulton died June 23 after a long illness, aged 68, with funeral services at St Joseph Church and burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. He is survived by three sons, three daughters, 15 grandchildren, and multiple siblings.
Wm Winkenwaerder sustains a fracture of his left arm while tearing down an structure. He is reported to be recovering well. The incident occurred during a family visit by Prof F Havlik and his brother, with Blessing Texas noted in the brief update.
