Lavaca County marks flag anniversary and savings drive progress
On June 14 the nation observes the flag’s 173rd anniversary. Lavaca County residents have bought 13 123 50 dollars in Series E Savings Bonds in the first four weeks of Independence Savings Bond Drive, reaching 23 86 percent of a 55 000 quota. The drive ends July 4 with accounting through July.
Moulton Student Receives Degree at UH Spring Commencement
Frank E. Kocian Jr. of Route 1 Moulton was awarded a Master of Education degree at the University of Houston spring commencement. The event honored a record class of 1265 graduates led by Dr. E E Oberholtzer who retired to become the universitys first president emeritus.

Otto Goedecke Cotton Company continues expansion with a new 70 by 90 foot cotton classing room and testing laboratory under construction in Hallettsville. The 6,300 square foot facility will be finished by week’s end, freeing the current lab space for conversion to offices for more than 40 local staff. Kosmos Spoetzl Dies Prominent Shiner Brewery Owner
Shiner brewer Kosmos Spoetzl, 76, died Saturday at Shiner Hospital after illness. He founded the Shiner Brewery in 1914 and led community efforts. funeral services were held Monday with interment in Shiner City Cemetery. Survivors include daughter Cecile Spoetzl Gasser and sister Mrs. Monica Halsbeck.

Louis Simecek of near Moulton died Saturday June 17 at 6 30 PM after a year long illness. Funeral services were held Monday June 19 at 9 30 AM from Smith Funeral Home with Rev Joseph Kopp. Interment followed in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. He was 46 years 11 months and 11 days old. He married Millie Rehak October 3 1933 in Hallettsville and leaves a wife and six children Marvin Margie George Lois Rita Helen and Gladys all of Moulton. He is survived by his mother Mrs Mary Simecek of Westhoff six sisters Albina Booth Frances Baros Vera Baros Mary Hahn Annie Stavinoha and Viola and two brothers John Simecek and Emil Simecek.
