Social notes recall community visits and gatherings
A lengthy period column lists visits and social calls among local families including the Moffatts Starcevic and McDonald households. It notes church attendance, Mothers Day recognitions, and multiple neighbors stopping by homes in various towns. It also includes detailed agricultural instructions on treating cattle grubs with rotenone and lindane sprays.
Time to start fighting cattle grubs now
Cattle grubs are up in the backs of beef and dairy cattle in Iowa herds where they can be treated, according to Earle S Raun, extension entomologist at Iowa State College. After the first treatment, follow with 30 day intervals as long as grubs remain. A simple rotenone dust treatment is effective for 4-H calves.
