In Appanoose County a light turnout is expected as four terms hold in the quiet primary election. Opposition concentrates on the Republican ballot with three polling in the gubernatorial race, four in the lieutenant governor contest, three for secretary of state, and two for state positions.
In a dated civic message the writer urges voters to participate in primaries to prevent losing favored candidates to fall ballots. They advocate a national primary to curb political machines and smoke filled rooms, stressing timely voting and a duty to select candidates for fall elections.
Sunday evening at Curtis Tomlin Home featured visitors from the Ken neth Free family and Mrs Flora, along with the Karl Tuttle farm family. Lyndon McDanel helped with farm work while Bud McDanel hosted. Mr and Mrs Fred Hainline joined Ralph Titcker and others for dinner at Eider. Leonard Matthies and A Ehret family were guests, while Robert DuVall and Helen DuVall spent the weekend with Clifford Offield.
A string of social visits are listed across Centerville and Albia households. Guests included the Kinnarnons, McDanel family, Fred Hamline, Ralph Tucker, Cecil Comstock, Clell McDanel, John Wilson, Vern Livengood, Gabe Johnson, Velma Sharon Kay and others. Several families hosted birthday gatherings and informal dinners, with travel between Centerville and nearby towns noted.
Mrs G T Turner and son George went to Osage Iowa where she learned her sister had died. G T Turner and Oscar Anderson attended the funeral. Emmett Derby and family visited George Hammond. Carolyn Swift stayed with Maxine Sheldon to help painting. The Busy Bee club met with Dorothy Pickerell.
Guiford Caster and his father called at the Zell Wilson home on Monday afternoon. They reportedly bought sow and pies from them. Charley Johnson and B. L. Wilson were seen in business areas. Charley Joon made a business trip to Tuesday. Darby and M. % attended, with oats at the Bo Ee Darby and M. %. Board. Zell Wilson Wednesday visits by Win. Bivin and a chat with him at the Russell Darby home. they were not at home. Mr. Bil Wilson and wife and daughter visited the VanDorin home Sunday. Wilson as a Sunday caller at the Lyle Cloyed home. Hilton 4-H club met May 12 led by Keith Clark with about 200 members present. They voted to send 10 to WHO for flood relief, planned a county skating party, discussed a hayride, and assigned a committee for a future program while adults served candy to attendees.

Billy Lockman returns from Korea for a 30 day furlough to see his parents, while Mr and Mrs Bill Clancy and son visit the Milton Stocker home. Shirley Stocker and Mo ravian seniors tour the Ozarks. Sunday gatherings occur at multiple Lockman and Stocker households with extended family and friends attending baccalaureate and commencement services in Blakesburg.
