Drake Track Star John McGee Brother of MHS Student
The April 17, 1934 Chariton Leader profiles John McGee of Drake University, sibling of Moravia High School pupil Mary Gee. The Iowa distance standout set multiple two mile indoor records, clocking 9:61.9, 9:51.5, 9:46.8, and a Drake fieldhouse mark at 9:34.4, with hopes for a 9:25 outdoor time. Coached by Franklin P. Johnson, McGee repeatedly beat rivals and lapped fields, though Sears edged him for the conference title.
