After years without one Moravia will form a Boy Scout organization. Roy Callen leads the effort and hopes to recruit many boys soon. Interested youths should see Mr Callen promptly for details to be announced in future issues.
The community mourns Avis McFatridge wife of the late Geo W McFatridge a longtime resident near Iconium Iowa She was born in England April 18 1858 came to the United States at age nine and died April 26 1984 at her home aged 70 years 8 days Surviving children include Mrs Mary Andrews Ray McFatridge Blanche Douglas Hugh McFatridge and others Grandchildren great grandchildren and sisters brothers also survive Funeral services were held April 28 1984 at the Iconium Church of Christ with Rev Robert Seath officiating Burial followed in Iconium cemetery

The ladies of the Appanoose County Farm Bureau observed their annual achievement day at Centerville last Thursday. The event, held in the Association rooms, featured exhibits and booths and drew representatives from across the county, marking one of the county’s best programs of its kind.
The Unionville junior senior banquet at the Baptist church opened the annual graduation events. Mothers of the juniors prepared the meal under Mins Faye Woolums supervision. sophomores served. The toast theme was The Last Round Up with old west decor.
The fifth annual Rural Life Day will be observed at Hilton Sunday May 6 with Sunday School at 9 and services at 1. In the afternoon Mrs Elsworth Rich of Medison will speak and others have been invited. There will be a cooperative dinner at noon. At 4 30 p m the Moravis Public School Band will give a concert and additional music is planned. Town and city people are invited for the afternoon meeting when they have no services.
Sunday at the Otha Hiatt home relatives gathered for a birthday dinner honoring Mr Hiatt and his daughter Lola Jean whose birthdays were Saturday. A large cake with candles framed the event as guests listed included Levis Main Laer Mes an aes wis a03 an Lou and many others.
Public School band presents a Saturday evening concert in the park May 5 starting at Welock. If bad weather occurs, the performance moves to the Community Building to accommodate concertgoers.
The W P M L S of the Methodist church presents the play More Power to You at the Moravia M E Church next Sunday evening at a to be announced time. The Moravia Girls Hand directed by Dale Curig performs at 1 45. A silver offering will be collected. Details appear in an advertisement in this Moravia Union issue.
The N. R. Ward store in Moravia faced a fire threat Tuesday evening when a motor in the cooling system overheated. Mr. Ward arrived at the shop in time to prevent substantial damage beyond the motor.
Miss Ruby Tixue daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Tisue north of Moravia and Alfred Sutton Jr of Albia were married at the Methodist church in Albia on Saturday April 21 officiated by Dr EA Moore. Attendants were Laurence Johnson and Emma Sutton sister of the groom. Friends extend congratulations.
Families gathered at the E F Wilson home to honor C T Stocker with a noon basket meal. An afternoon treat featured two freezers of ice cream from the Bexl Rouse family. Several Stocker and Wilson relatives plus friends attended.
Mora based Co-Operative Marketing Association official C C Jones leaves tonight with a stock shipment bound for the Chicago market.
The American Legion town department launches a statewide safety campaign next week with state motor vehicle department cooperation. Local posts arrange garages and stations to inspect cars for brakes steering lights horn wiper and other parts at no charge. An OK sticker will be issued to cars meeting requirements to reduce highway loss of life and property damage.
The Epworth League at Fairview Methodist church near M aravia began its fifth year with a Tuesday eve celebration. 135 attended, including 70 youths, noting four years of perfect weekly meetings and 5845 young members served. Readings by Mary Boyer Charlene Townsend Meadors Hawk vocal duets by Kittie Main Ads Boyar Vera Hoshik and Velma Ewing.
Past Masters Night was observed at the local Masonic Temple with Past Masters exemplifying third degree work. Visitors came from Ottumwa Albia and Centerville lodges. Thursday evening the lodge will again perform third degree work and all Masons are urged to attend.
The fifth annual Vosburgh School reunion will be held Friday May 11 at the Jess Darby home twenty miles southwest of Hilton. All ex pupils teachers and families are urged to attend. Taylor township Republicans caucused at Moravia Community Building naming candidates for June Primary. Officers include J. W. Halden and Lester Brain for Justices of Peace, John Veach and Fred Hiatt for Constable, L. R. Hiatt for 1936 term trustee, Theo A. Mil for 1936 term trustee, J. L. Dodd for Township Clerk, R. C. Wilson for Assessor, H. K. Smith as Precinct Committeeman, Loreng as Precinct Committeewoman, and delegates to county convention with alternates Theo Miller and others listed.
The death of Mrs T J Gillaspie occurred last Friday night at 11 o clock at her Mystic home after a short illness with pneumonia. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p m at Mystic First United Methodist Church with Rev Bruvoid officiating. She was 80 years and 7 months old. Interment was at Denney cemetery beside her husband whose death occurred on March 7 of this year. Mrs Gillaspie was formerly Miss Anne Kersey daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Kersey.
A surprise birthday dinner for Van Lemaster was hosted at his Ottumwa home with relatives including Al Ward, Ralph Ward family, A J Wand and Dorothy, Bob LaFollette, W I Lemaster, Harley Tisue and family, H Remaster family, Theo Miller and Francis, among others. Guests arrived amid a feast with a large birthday cake baked by Mrs. Harley Tisue. Attendees wished him many happy returns of the day.
A caucus for Democrats will be held at the Morning Community Building Thursday evening May 7:30 oclock. Mrs J D Minnes serves as the committeewoman.

The United Brethren Church lists a full Pentecost program with Sunday School at 10 a.m. led by M. H. Johnson, morning worship at 11, a youth-led message, Christian Endeavor at 7 p.m., evening service at 8, and a Wednesday prayer meeting at 8. The pastor will give a special message for families.
