Farm Bureau labels wheat program data as bragging
The American Farm Bureau Federation criticized a department press release on the wheat stabilization program. It said only 35.36 percent of allotment farms signed up, leaving 64.64 percent not participating, with seven states above 50 percent: Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and South Dakota. The Foreign Agricultural Service reported beef and veal imports at 213 million pounds in Q1, down 14 percent from a year earlier, due partly to supply shifts to Britain and Europe. The Agriculture Department forecast total beef and veal imports for the year 20 percent below last year.
