Monroe's swimming instruction program shifts to a station method with two levels Beginners and Advanced Beginners. Registration runs 9 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Tiny Tots pool with lessons starting June 15. Each class will have eight instructors and ten stations guiding students through 60 minute sessions with tests at 15 minute intervals.
Max H Lavine 58 longtime general manager of the Superior Evening Telegram died at 2 a.m. at St Josephs hospital after a period of failing health. He began in 1925 as an advertising salesman and later oversaw affiliated papers owning or controlling several. He recently bought the Chippewa Falls Herald Telegram and owned the Portage Register.
Monroe selects Donna Swiggum as its first participant in the Americans Abroad summer program. She will spend two months in Istanbul with the Duran family, leaving New York City on a charter flight July 10 and returning September 16. The senior at Mree High School will tour the Black Sea shorelines and serves as next year Student Council president.
Area farmers and flock owners may apply for 10 day old pheasant chicks through the Green County Conservation League. Fred R. Simpson reports 7,000 eggs from Poynette Game Farm were brought to Monroe last week and are being hatched at Monroe Chickeries. The league funds hatching and chick care until 10 days old, then distributes to cooperators who raise them with one pound of feed per chick.
In a mixed trading session, airlines showed strength with Northwest up near 3 points and Western, TWA, and Pan American each advancing over one point. Texas Gulf Sulfur led activity, recouping about two points of Monday’s six percent drop amid a 4.2 million share day.
Daymona 1uviy, president of the Swiss Colony, was renamed yesterday by the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents as a member of the UW Athletic Board. Kubly, longtime W Club leader and former president, will represent the UW Alumni Association and has worked with the athletic department for many years.
The Senate approved a jury trial amendment by 51 to 48, guaranteeing jury trials in most criminal contempts from the civil rights bill, except voting rights cases. It rejected a bid to strike three school desegregation training provisions, 56 to 40. Barry Goldwater joined some Republicans in support. Nelson and Proxmire backed the minority on the jury issue.
The Board of Regents approved a $112 million budget for fiscal 1965, with enrollments expected to reach historic highs. Arthur DeBardeleben was elected president and Charles Gelatt vice president as the budget rises 12 percent due to salaries, research expansion, and increased enrollments. Enrollment projected at 41,950 across Madison Milwaukee and state centers. Funding from state tax appropriations, federal sources, fees, gifts, grants, and university earnings.
Mrs. Herman Pfund, an employee at Roberts Drug Store in New Glarus, received a silver dollar during a June Dairy Month promotion by Mr. Moo. She asked a customer the magic question and suggested a dairy product with the meal.
Sun Prairie GOP U S senate candidate Wilbur Renk remains under treatment at St. Marys hospital in Madison for a bladder infection. He was taken ill last Wednesday in Eau Claire and returned home that night. He entered the hospital Friday for tests after developing a high temperature.

Floods described as the worst in memory swept across Montana's northwestern mountains, killing at least eight and isolating hundreds. Dams burst near Choteau Browning Dupuyer and East Glacier sending 30 foot walls of water. Five Grant family members were missing and a girl drowned on the Blackfeet Reservation. Great Falls housing nearly 1,000 in emergency shelters.
Nixon pressed Romney to present a clear choice between moderate Republicans and Goldwater at the party convention. Romney said he would consider running after talks with Nixon and noted several governors urging him to seek the nomination. Goldwater welcomed Eisenhower’s neutrality as he remained focused on civil rights actions.

Emil Escher 82 Monticello died at 835 last night in St. Clare hospital after becoming ill Sunday He was a retired cheesemaker and a director of the Commercial and Savings Bank and helped organize the North Side Swiss Cheese Co op in Monticello He was born November 4 1881 in Alsace Lorraine and came to America in 1906 He served in the German navy and witnessed the sinking of the Russian fleet that year Services set for 10 am Thursday at St Victor s Church with burial in Calvary cemetery He is survived by two sons Arthur Lodi and Fred Monticello a daughter Mrs Ernest Kern Clarno Township eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren He was the last of his family and was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters Friends may call at Voegeli funeral home after 2 am tomorrow Rosary at 8 pm tomorrow.

An Eagle Scout award was presented under the stars at the Campfire Court of Honor in the Kiwanis Youth Cabin. David Deininger, son of Sheriff and Mrs. W. E. Deininger, received Scouting’s highest honor after a Troop 101 ceremony led by first Scoutmaster Roy Hefty. Deininger joined Troop 101 in 1958, earning ranks from Second Class to Eagle in 1964, with extensive service and staff time at Canyon Camp.
SUE WORTH TEXAS. Attorneys for former Maj. Gen Edwin A. Walker began presenting evidence today in his 2 million libel suit against the Associated Press. A jury was selected Monday. Walker, 54, contends AP stories falsely accused him of leading a charge during the 1962 civil rights riot at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. Walker's chief attorney, Clyde Watts of Oklahoma City, said in opening that Walker did not lead any charge or assume command.
