High Winds Topple Trees Hit Monroe Area Power Outages
Winds of 50 miles per hour swept Wisconsin from Gratiot to Albany causing widespread outages. In Monroe a downed tree cut power to 225 customers from 7:20 to 7:28 p.m. on 18th Street and 16th 17th Avenues. Clarno area lost power 8:08 to 8:32 p.m. Multiple trees and limbs felled across the state with hail and dust storms. Ball to warn Athens over Cyprus crisis from Geneva

Buehler Sr. Former sheriff dies at 76 in Monroe
Charles H. Buehler Sr. 76 of 814 24th Street Monroe died at 9 this morning in St. Clare hospital from a malignancy after three years ill health and a hospital stay since April 25. He served as sheriff in the early 1920s and later held county and city police roles along with World War II guard duty at the Exeter tunnel. He built a battery bus ness later becoming a Nash auto agency operator. The family later owned Oaktron site where Murphy Theese Co. stands. Surviving are a son Charles Jr. and two daughters, plus a brother Frank, a half-brother Fred Ross, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery after services at Stuessy funeral home Saturday.

A. N. Johnson was named to succeed Mrs. Ida Lundgren as director of the Green County Historical Society at the annual meeting held last night in the old Franklin schoolhouse. Lyman Pitkin and Miss Hannah Bindschaecher were renamed directors, with Miss Anna Blum and Olin Flistam continuing as holdovers. Walter Dundore of Beloit spoke on group activities and plans. Donations included magazines dating to 1907 to be sold for funds, with Grace Schroeder in charge of marketing. Mathilda Buri Eastman donated Monroe photographs. Mr. and Mrs. Osro Grinnell, now in Mountain Home Arkansas, donated magazines and a trundle bed.

Two Killed in High Speed Stolen Car Crash
Two young men fleeing in a stolen car during a state highway pursuit were killed when the vehicle crashed at over 100 miles an hour. Police said identification was found on the victims and fingerprints were sent to the FBI to determine identities. The car had been stolen from Tell, Iowa, on June 6 and the owners resided in Indiana.
