The annual Rally Day program at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello featured nursery through junior departments with songs Bible verses and stories including Jesus Is Near Jesus Loves the Little Children and Whisper a Prayer. Bibles were presented to all second graders by Supt. Karl Feldt with Mrs. Ronald Hilliard as pianist. Visitors Mrs Shannonhan Mrs Lame and Mrs Clyde McPhee visited Mrs Lillian Stauffer.
The Woman's Relief Corps hosted a potluck dinner on Thursday with president Mrs. Mary Peterson presiding. Mrs. Ida Voegeli was named patriotic instructor by Peterson during a business meeting.
The Monroe Christian Women's Club invites the public to a luncheon and Bicentennial Style Show on Wednesday June 16 at Idle Hour Mansion. Monro e High School Future Homemakers of America members will model self made outfits. Guest speaker is Mrs. Mary Dee Roberts of Lincoln Nebraska. Reservations due by June 12.
The 52nd annual Becker reunion was held at Evansville Park on Sunday. Attending from Monticello were Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wittenwyler, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Blumer, and Mrs. Alwina Gempeler. Relatives came from Monroe, Brodhead, Palmyra, Elkhorn, Janesville, Mt. Horeb, Madison, New Glarus, Barneveld, Orfordville, Jefferson, North Prairie, Oregon, Janesville, and Davis, Illinois.
A birthday picnic was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gempler in Juda to honor Mrs. Luella Wunschel. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Wendel Wunschel with Jeff and Barbara, Mrs. Larry Schurtz and Tracy, Monroe, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Goecks and Steve, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Goecks with Mike and Susie, Mr. and Mrs. Randy Miller and Terri, and Guy Albright, all of Juda.
At the Jaycee annual awards banquet in Monroe Friday retiring president Donna Lovelace awarded Lora Mann of Monroe Manor the Presidential Award of Honor for her service. Mann attended the event, and Lovelace thanked her for handling calls, typing, and mimeograph work.
The Clarno Zion United Methodist Church Bible study group met at Mrs. Robert C. Fey’s home on May 25. They opened with a poem The Tree of Life and studied excerpts from Transformed Temperaments. Plans include cookies for the Children's Bible School and a birthday luncheon at Pleasant View on Aug 9, with a summer recess.
Alpha Zeta Sorority Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha held a June business meeting at the First National Bank Community Room. Miss Helen Altman presided as letters from members who attended the 31st State Convention in Monroe were read. The Idle Hour Mansion hosted the convention and will host a summer dinner on June 21 with invited guests.
A May ceremony at Pleasant View Nursing Home celebrated volunteers for contributing over 4 000 hours. Activities included a 4 H style show, Christmas caroling, Halloween parties, resident outings, Bible study, library trips, letter writing, and shopping. Edna Ames registered attendees Emma Mueller handed out programs Agnes Larson and Sadie Maddrell provided refreshments prizes went to Mrs Ethel Pinnow Mrs Margie Sandley and Mrs Orpha Sommers for notable registrations and red white blue dress.
Gordens from Huxley Iowa spent a weekend with the Siedschlags in Carl and Jon Rt. 5. They also visited Ray and Herbert Gordens in Monroe. On June 6 Dave and Mrs Gorden attended the golden wedding anniversary open house for Herbert and Mrs Walters at Dutch's Inn Monroe.
Miss Sharon Tschudy honored at two bridal showers in Monroe and at the Weaver Seyler home. Attendees include the Tschudy family, Hendricksons, and local friends. The couple plans to wed June 19 at St Victor's Church in Madison.
