Monticello Mortgage Case Drives Record Delay
Newburgh June 5 Walter Anthony decides a Monticello case. W H Sweet sold his jewelry store and outfit at Monticello to Irving Clark. Sweet took back a chattel mortgage for 3177 on January 16, 1915 and held it until January 17, 1916 before recording. Clark’s debts and bankruptcy led trustee Blake Washington to seek to declare the mortgage invalid against pre‑record claims. Anthony rules the mortgage should not be considered as not recorded in a reasonable time and directs sale of mortgaged property free of claims, with proceeds used for other bankruptcy debts.

Not a Zeppelin Over Paris Air Mystery
A French airship caused brief excitement as residents learned the object overhead was not a Zeppelin. Zeppelins during air raids are not flown at such low altitudes, making it easier for anti aircraft gunners to target them. The incident underscores confusion between French dirigibles and German Zeppelins in wartime skies.
