The aldermen were to reconvene Thursday at 1 o clock to canvass the soldiers vote for aldermen and ed board and supervisor in the First ward but a quorum failed. A meeting will be held that evening at 8 for that purpose. Soldier ballots will not alter the previously announced results.
Private James H. Rorty of this city, son of Mrs Geta Rorty of 19 Beacon Street, formerly with the Times-Press, cited for extraordinary heroism in action near Sommerance France on October 21. He left duty as a machinist to serve as aid and stretcher bearer, guiding evacuation under enemy fire until the mission was complete.
Captain Walter Gresham Andrews informs Andrew Murtha of Horace Murtha's death in action on Sept 29 in France. The Machine Gun Company letter praises Horace as a brave, selfless, true soldier and extends heartfelt sympathy to his parents, Mr. Andrew Murtha of 45 Beacon Street and family.

Alanson Youngblood Harris died at Thrall Hospital at 5 a m from injuries suffered when struck by an Erie train at East Malin street crossing while hurrying to the post office to assume duties as chief mail clerk a job he had held for years Traumatic pneumonia developed from internal injuries ending his recovery Harris born Bloomingburg August 31 1903 son of Theodore and Evelyn Harris resident of this city for 31 years worked at the post office noted as a diligent and cheerful employee married January 1888 at Searsville to Mary D Van Derlyn He was a longtime Lan member and known for his dedication until his death.
The long awaited report on the Hog Island ship building project finds no criminal liability after a searching investigation. It recommends the Arbitration Board determine any portion of the $60,000,000 plant cost that was beyond reasonable necessity or should be repaid by contractors to the government.
Coroner George H. Rutledge begins thorough inquiry into the Otisville accident in which Jobin Ruthside and Raphael Esposito died and several others were injured. A letter found on Ruthside links a New York sister, Nora Rutledge, to the tragedy. Boil ers of eight tons each toppled from supports, crushing two men and injuring others as six-inch movements preceded the fall. Pasquale DePreto died from injuries, with his body taken to Otisville hospital morgue awaiting interment plans.
Mr George Sannwald of 11e Wickham avenue received a letter from his wife in France stating he is well. He participated in the last drive and escaped unscathed along with nine others. one man was slightly wounded. He awaits orders to move toward Metz as a motorcycle dispatch bearer. He is nephew of Al and Mrs UC Ward of 370 North Street Middletown.
Middletown residents respond enthusiastically to the Red Cross Christmas Roll Call with growing support. The campaign reports 160 percent participation after recent listings of individuals and firms including Clemson Bros Inc, H. Johnson Millinery, McMonagle & Rosers, L Lipfeld Store, Hanford & Horton Co, Wahsxill Transit Pranks, Berry Store, J in 1 Store, Mike ber Shop, L Kernechan's Jew Store, Hanford & Adams, J Erskine Milly Drug Store.
