A study of Middletown youths finds marijuana use rising over the past decade with most smokers under 20. Teens report easy access through friends, view grass as cheaper and less disruptive than beer, and fear parental disapproval more than police action. Police views on the local drug scene noted for tomorrow.
Arab terrorists seized the Olympic village in Munich killing two Israelis and holding 13 others hostage in the Israeli quarters. Negotiations involved West Germany and Arab League officials as a deadline was set and extended. Police surrounded the building while Israel urged a halt to the Games. the incident left a wrestling trainer dead and another Israeli casualty unidentified.
Munich AP reports the 20th Olympic Games will be suspended this afternoon and a memorial service planned Wednesday morning for two Israelis killed in a terrorist raid. Av ery Brundage and Willi Daum announced the decision at a news conference.

Partly cloudy conditions tonight with lows in the 50s. Wednesday will be warmer with highs in the mid 70s. The extended forecast shows cloudy skies through Friday with a chance of showers late in the week. Highs in the 70s to low 80s and overnight lows in the upper 50s to low 60s. Labor Day high reached 73 with a 59 overnight low, while Middletown reported 43 inches of rain over the weekend.
The Senate planned a vote on a $50,000 tax free death benefit for families of police, fire, and public safety officers killed in the line of duty and a $4.8 billion two year extension of the antipoverty program. The bill also provides $25,000 for loss of limb or vision and $50,000 for double dismemberment, with costs estimated at $6-8 million yearly and $40 million authorized for the first year retroactive to 1967.
