UAW Reaches Tentative Ford Contract Settlement

The United Auto Workers announced a tentative three year deal with Ford Motor Co ending a planned 10 am walkout by 185000 workers. Local talks continue and strike authorizations may be used if needed as ratification proceeds. Woodcock praised the package but did not release specifics.

Military alert winds down as UN acts in Mideast

The UN Security Council orders a peacekeeping force to the Mideast as Soviet troop moves are feared. reports indicate up to 1000 Russian troops may have been en route to Egypt and airlift activity to Syria and Egypt drops sharply.
