President Nixon rejected frantic reporting as vicious and distorted, saying he stays cool under pressure, citing the Middle East crisis and emphasizing he respects reporters even when he disputes their coverage. He defended his decisiveness despite public doubt.
Common Pleas Judge Robert Black Jr issues a temporary injunction preventing any more showings of the X rated film Deep Throat at a Cincinnati theater. The injunction lasts until a suit by County Prosecutor Simon Leis Jr is settled. A Tuesday hearing is set as Hamilton County follows Supreme Court obscenity rulings.

Doctors Duff and Campbell report in the New England Journal of Medicine that 43 deformed infants at Yale New Haven Hospital’s special care nursery died with parental consent between 1970 and 1972. The deaths, 14 percent of 299, followed withholding or withdrawing treatment for various severe defects.
Butz faced questions tied to a campaign finance probe from the Justice Department task force and comments by Miles W. Kirkpatrick. The Washington Star-News cited multiple informants saying the probe continued after Archibald Cox’s removal.
