Salton Sea faced with $30 million pipeline plan
Aerospace Corp researchers propose a 136 mile pipeline canal from the Gulf of California to the Salton Sea to pump out 120000 acre feet of water annually. They estimate costs at 30 million dollars to build and about 430000 dollars yearly for pumping. The aim is to reduce salinity by stabilizing the lake level and lowering salinity to support fish life. The inland lake sits 30 miles long, 15 miles wide, 140 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
