Hugo Zacchini the original Human Cannonball known for his circus act died Monday in San Bernardino California after a stroke. He was 77.
Secretary of State Henry Kissinger met Mao Tse tung at Mao’s home after a day touring Fragrant Hills with Foreign Minister Chiao Kuanhua. Kissinger’s party included Nancy Kissinger and seven aides while George Bush and Winston Lord stayed for Mao’s discussion.

The United States ends the two month old grain embargo as long term deals with the Soviet Union allow American farmers to sell grain, with annual exports of 6 to 8 million metric tons and a future oil trade of 200000 barrels daily. The accord aims to stabilize trade and aid workers and consumers, though soybeans and rice are excluded and price impacts are debated.
