Retailers profits rise in second quarter earnings

After tax income for major retailers totaled nearly 2.3 billion for the second quarter, up from 1.4 billion in Q1. Second quarter sales rose 9 percent to 112 billion, with after tax profits averaging 2 cents per dollar of sales and ROE at 13.7 percent. Complete figures to be published in December.

Doctors treated him at the Pardo Palace and reported he recovered during the night while officials considered an official update and canceled his Wednesday audience.

U.S. lifts grain embargo with Soviet Union under long term pacts

The United States ends the two month old grain embargo as long term deals with the Soviet Union allow American farmers to sell grain, with annual exports of 6 to 8 million metric tons and a future oil trade of 200000 barrels daily. The accord aims to stabilize trade and aid workers and consumers, though soybeans and rice are excluded and price impacts are debated.
