The Ohio Energy Emergency Commission adopts a crisis plan authorizing declarations of a natural gas crisis. The governor would declare the crisis, the commission or successor agency could reallocate gas and restrict nonessential energy use. The plan beats public utilities curtailment limits and shifts PUCO control during emergencies.
Morristown New Jersey AP report details Karen Ann Quinlan’s mother set to testify urging doctors to remove the ventilator keeping her comatose daughter alive after six months. The adoptive father pleaded for the court to let Karen pass into the hands of the Lord as the family seeks a humane death with dignity.
The AP reports Karen Ann Quinlan, 21, in a coma at St. Clare's Hospital, costs $450 per day to keep alive. New Jersey pays due to lack of money, while adoptive parents seek to remove the respirator. Doctors note hospital costs include $100 daily for respirator operation.
Cincinnati pressures toward a decisive game as Don Gullett faces Luis Tiant in a pivotal showdown. Boston wins on Carlton Fisk’s 12th inning leadoff homer after Pete Rose’s bold talk and a dramatic back-and-forth that left both sides believing in victory.
Three men armed with submachine guns stormed the Turkish Embassy to Austria in Vienna at noon and killed Ambassador Danis Tunaligil. Police reported the attackers escaped in a car before they arrived. Tunaligil had served as ambassador since November 1973.
The nation will return to standard time this Sunday at 2 a.m. except in Arizona Hawaii Puerto Rico Virgin Islands American Samoa and the eastern Indiana zone. If Congress does not act the schedule may revert to six months daylight time and six months standard time with DST restarting April 26 1976 or earlier per a Transportation Department recommendation.
