Washington AP reports a fierce behind the scenes fight in Congress this week as protectionists and developers clash over Alaska land bills. Senate proposal would designate 82.6 million acres as parks refuges and forests while House plan covers 105 million acres. Environmentalists oppose mining allowances and BLM control for refuges, and favor 66 million wilderness acres versus the Senate’s 35.
