West Muskingum to close as district runs out of funds

About 2,300 students in the West Muskingum Local district near Zanesville will begin a five day unscheduled vacation Thursday as the board suspends operations due to a deficit certified by the state auditor at 309,848 dollars if schools stay open through year end. If a 5 mill operating tax levy passes, schools may reopen Nov 10. failure means not until a resubmitted vote, likely Dec 6, with a higher levy required.
