Fire kills four children in Union Kentucky
Union Volunteer Fire Chief Randall Setters said the children died in their sleep as a Sunday morning fire swept through a three year old home. Lawrence Hegge and three daughters Valarie Kimberly Sue and Kelly were found dead in various rooms while Marcella died in the bathroom. Judy Hegge escaped through a bathroom window. The fire reportedly started from a sofa in the ground floor family room and may have released poisonous gases from plastic furniture. Hegge had earlier lost his wife in a 1971 auto crash. The exact cause remained undetermined and firefighters wore masks to enter the home.
