Flag Day in Middletown Recalls Flags Over Miami Valley

A historicFlag Day feature traces flags that flew over the Miami Valley from early French and Spanish claims to English rule and the Stars and Stripes. It notes LaSalle in 1669 and Celoron in 1749, Clark in the Northwest Territory, and the 1818 rise to 20 stars with 13 stripes, ending with the 1877 centennial of the flag and Middletown’s wartime service for liberty.

English Flag Floats First in Ohio Country at Coshocton

In 1750 Christopher Gist followed French Celeron with his British standard arriving at Coshoc ton an Indian village where an English flag flew on a roof. He then reached Pickawillany near present day Piqua and saw the British banner raised at the home of English traders. Old Britain, a Piqua chief, allied with the Empire.

Frontier Warfare Amid Franco Indian Alliances and English

The fragment notes warfare in the frontier where French allied with Native tribes clash with English backed forces. It references the broader struggle between France and Britain over territorial influence and native alliances.

KTTV Plans All Comercial TV Block Free Of Charge

KTTV Los Angeles will air a half hour of commercials from 6 30 to 7 p m on Saturdays starting July 11. The station will not charge advertisers for this all commercial program and the idea came from Richard A Moore KTTV president after his daughter watched a commercial.
