The group cites abuses in medical, tax, and credit data. Linowes notes widespread access to federal tax returns and a company manual on impersonation. The commission formed by the 1974 Privacy Act will present the package to Congress in mid July.
Ohio lawmakers move to allow sale of license plates bearing the wheelchair symbol to disabled motorists using specially equipped vehicles owned by another person. Plates issued at the same cost as regular tags with standard fees.
A one man grand jury in Litchfield concludes errors by State police, the state's attorney, the defense, and Peter Reilly led to an unjust conviction for his mother's 1973 murder. The report notes suppressed evidence could have cleared Reilly and cites police pressure, defense investigator harassment, and Reillys confession as factors complicating the case. The judge found rights violated but no crimes proven and no indictments recommended.
